Smita was conceived in Bengali family.
 A large portion of her tutoring was done in different parts of the nation. Her dad, a resigned Army officer, Colonel Pranab Das, and her mom was an instructor and later functioned as foremost in Hyderabad.
 She did her ninth and tenth standard at St. Ann's High School, . She was all India topper in ICSE. 

She graduated in Commerce from St Francis College for Women. She is one of the most youthful, at 22, to have cleared the Union Public Service Commission exam securing All India fourth rank and decided on the IAS. 
Subsequent to finishing the managerial preparing in Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, she was prepared in Adilabad locale in her trial days.
